Regional Microinsurance Workshop for Central America
|14 August 2015 | Managua, Nicaragua
On 14th August the A2ii presented on a panel discussing recent inclusive insurance developments in the Nicaraguan, El Salvadorian, Peruvian, Colombian and Jamaican insurance markets. The panelists discussed the important role regulation plays in market development through both boosting consumer confidence and providing risk takers with an enabling regulatory environment. In addition, there was broad consensus among the panelists on the need to differentiate microinsurance from massive insurance regulation. This it was felt should help to ensure that product development - from design to claims payment - targets the needs of the low income population and that it can be accessed through adequate and efficient channels.
The Conference was attended by around 70 representatives from supervisory and regulatory authorities, insurance companies, microfinance institutions and development agencies.
The workshop was organised by the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), part of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, and REDCAMIF (Red Centroamericana y del Caribe de Micorfinanzas).

Farewell Onur Azcan
We are sad that Onur Azcan, our capacity building manager, has left the A2ii Secretariat team this month. During the last four years, Onur has inspired and supported insurance supervisors to increase access to insurance, particularly in Sub-Sahara Africa, where he has put tremendous effort into the development of a regional implementation plan in close collaboration with the IAIS. We would like to thank Onur for his tireless commitment and dedication, his energy, kindness and high professionalism, which have been an inspiration to us all.
We will miss him greatly but at the same time wish him the very best of luck, success and pleasure in his new position at GIZ Morocco, where he will work on the promotion of small and medium sized enterprises (SME).
