Event announcement:
The Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii), the Asociación de Supervisores de Seguros de América Latina (ASSAL), and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) are pleased to invite you to join us in the next A2ii-ASSAL-IAIS Regional Dialogue on “Insurance and the Sustainable Development Goals”, which will take place on Thursday, September 16th, 2021, from 16:00 to 17.30 (CET). Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in English and Spanish.
The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere. The 17 Goals were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which set out a 15-year plan to achieve the Goals, which recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection. More important than ever, the goals provide a critical framework for COVID-19 recovery.
This opens a new range of possibilities and opportunities for the insurance market. Insurance services can be a major ally for governments committed to reaching the SDGs. In particular, they are a key component for addressing climate change (SDG 13), food security (SDG 2), good health and well-being (SDG3), building resilience by enabling customers to access finance, increase productivity and income. This ultimately goes towards promoting decent work, economic growth (SDG 8) and reducing poverty (SDG 1) and vulnerability. Insurance services also play an indirect and supporting role in five of the SDGs: Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Partnerships for Goals (SDG 17) and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11).
Please note that this regional dialogue is open to all stakeholders.
To assist supervisors and other stakeholders in preparing for this webinar, we have included the following questions for prior reflection:
1. How is your country dealing with the SDGs? What are the stakeholders involved in related discussions?
2. Has your institution taken any action related to the achievement of the SDGs? If yes, what were they?
We encourage you to register, as the event will provide an opportunity not only to hear and learn from our experts, but also to discuss the insurance within the context of the Sustainable Development Goals with main stakeholders. The agenda is included for your consideration.
