Challenges and opportunities in enhancing client value in insurance - the African experience with new technologies - 2nd Consultative Forum

The African Insurance Organization (AIO), the Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii), the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), and the Microinsurance Network (MIN) hosted a Policy Seminar on Microinsurance Regulation for Insurance Supervisory Authorities in Kigali, Rwanda.

The format of this year’s Policy Seminar was designed as a Consultative Forum and provided a platform for exchange between insurance supervisors and participants from the insurance industry. The Forum focused on topics and strategies connecting regulation, supervision and policy, and industry action.[Read more on the discussions].

When the insurance market is less accessible to a group of customers, conventional approaches may not succeed in overcoming the barriers to access. In situations where access to insurance markets is impeded, innovation can help to reach out to potential consumers by making products and services attractive and economically viable. Regulation and supervision need to permit innovative approaches while protecting policyholders: the regulation should be recognising a wide range of business models, potential market participants and service providers while ensuring consumer protection.

In this context, the African Insurance Organisation, the International Association of Insurance Supervisors, the Microinsurance Network and the Access to Insurance Initiative are pleased to invite you to the Policy Seminar - Consultative Forum on:

“Challenges and opportunities in enhancing client value in insurance - the African experience with new technologies."

The Seminar took place the 5th June 2014 at Hotel des Milles Collines in Kigali, Rwanda. It was organised back to back with the 41st Conference and Annual General Assembly of the AIO.

Supervisors, industry stakeholders and insurance experts analysed how to profile innovative approaches, and how to foster technologies and outreach. At the same time they they how to ensure that appropriate insurance products are offered at an affordable cost to the excluded segments of the population.

The African Insurance Organisation (AIO) is a non-governmental organisation established in 1972 with 363 members from 46 African countries including 12 members from 7 overseas countries. Its main objectives are the promotion of inter-African co-operation and development of a healthy insurance and re-insurance industry in Africa (www.african-insurance.org)
